The Greatness of Green Tea

For many centuries, green tea has been a vastly popular beverage consumed by cultures all over the world. Originating from China, green tea is simply made up of leaves from the Camellia Sinensis plant, that are heat treated and processed for later use. Although it has long been consumed for pure enjoyment, green tea also carries with it a substantial reputation for additional health benefits. But what is it about this historically easy drinking beverage that makes it so beneficial?

In recent years, this product has been the center point of many medical research studies, in the hopes to uncover its positive effects related to the human body. The consensus of results continues to remain the same, stating the majority of health benefits linked to green tea are mainly attributed to its catechin or polyphenol content. These two chemical components can be found in a variety of fruits and vegetables, but account for more than a third of the Camellia Sinensis leaf's dry weight. Some of the health benefits associated with consumption of green tea include: prevention of certain cancers, decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, as well as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and cholesterol lowering properties. On top of that green tea also contains large amounts of essential vitamins and minerals that have been attributed to improvements in aspects like metabolism, skin care, and prevention of tooth decay.

When processed, black tea leaves are fermented which all but destroys the majority of polyphenols and antioxidants. Green tea is available for purchase in a variety of options including: bottled, individual tea bags, loose leaf, instant powder, or supplements often sold in a liquid or capsule form. Of the various forms, freshly brewed loose leaves or bags will provide you with the greatest amounts of polyphenols and antioxidants.

In summation, green tea is regarded as one of the world's most healthy beverages. Its naturally found chemical components known as polyphenols along with various vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants provide consumers with an unmatched amount of benefits. Available for purchase in a variety of forms as well as locations, it is safe to say that this beverage would be a smart choice for any individual looking to boost their everyday health.
